Frequently asked questions
What is CBM (cubic meter) in shipping?
CBM is the unit for a shipment's volume in cubic meters, calculated as length × width × height. Sea-freight carriers use it to price shipments and book space inside the container.
How do I calculate my shipment volume in CBM?
Multiply one carton's dimensions in centimetres (length × width × height), divide by 1,000,000 to get the carton volume, then multiply by the number of cartons. The calculator above does this automatically.
How many CBM fit in a 20ft and 40ft container?
A 20ft container holds roughly 25–28 m³ in practice, and a 40ft container roughly 55–60 m³. The exact figure varies with the cargo type and how it is loaded.
What is the difference between FCL and LCL?
FCL means booking a full container, best for large shipments. LCL is less-than-container load — you share the container with other cargo and pay by your shipment's CBM, ideal for smaller quantities.
